STORY: "In Flatliners, five medical students, obsessed by the mystery of what lies beyond the confines of life, embark on a daring and dangerous experiment: by stopping their hearts for short periods of time, each triggers a near-death experience – giving them a firsthand account of the afterlife. But as their experiments become increasingly dangerous, they are each haunted by the sins of their pasts, brought on by the paranormal consequences of trespassing to the other side." (FlatlinersMovie)
Premiering September 29, 2017, this is the sequel to the 1990 film directed by Joel Schumacher, and stars Ellen Page (“Kitty Pryde” in “X-Men” movies), Diego Luna (“Rogue One”), Nina Dobrev (“The Vampire Diaries”), James Norton and Kiersey Clemons.
Directed by Niels Arden Oplev, with script written by Peter Filardi and Ben Ripley. Actor Kiefer Sutherland from the OG film also returns here as “Dr. Nelson Wright”, so THAT’s going to be fun!
I had been a HUGE fan of the moody 1990 psychological horror film, had re-watched it not too long ago (less than 3 months ago?), having been unable to access the sole VCD I had of the film (couldn’t secure the DVD), and enjoyed the “horror” aspect, as such as 1990 could afford, without the gore, and with heaps of cliches and stars LOL
That said, I am both intrigued to see how THIS new incarnation works out, with all new ‘regrets” and pasts - a new franchise ala “Final Destination”? "Scary Movie"? This list goes on and on, forwards and backwards, I reckon :p
Although having the words “Today’s A Good Day To Die” - previously spoken with delicious direness by Kiefer Sutherland in the 90s - now wailed out like a frat-boy’s “battle cry for beer”, turns me off something’ fierce, “homage” or otherwise :p
Here’s a look at trailer+clip from the 1990 version:
