BRIGHT: SAMURAI SOUL - Poster & Trailer for Animated Film

BRIGHT: SAMURAI SOUL: "In the early years of Japan's Meiji Restoration, a human ronin must unite with an orc assassin to save an elf orphan from their common adversary." (Watch on Netflix)

And while the premise is with a far and away focus on the distant fictional past, the source of this upcoming anime is however based on something more recent...

Based on the world of the live-action film "Bright" (Directed by David Ayer, and released on Netflix in 2017 / My Slightly-Spoilerish Review), this anime spinoff movie from director Kyohei Ishiguro (Your Lie in April) is set in Japan between the end of the shogunate and Meiji era, and "tells the story of Izou, a Ronin, and Raiden, an orc, who work to bring a young elf girl and the wand she carries to the land of the elves in the north…"

Voicing "Izou" in this project is Simu Liu, who is currently tearing thru the cinematic charts as "Shang-Chi" in Marvel Studios' "Shang-Chi & The Legend of the Ten Rings"! He is joined by Fred Mancuso as the orc "Raiden" (who attempts to redeem himself from a life of thievery), and Yuzu Harada as the young elf "Sonya".

The Japanese voice cast includes Yuki Nomura, Daisuke Hirakawa and Shion Wakayama.

Clocking in at 1hour & 20minutes long, "BRIGHT: SAMURAI SOUL" premieres October 12th on Netflix.
