Henry Cavill is No Longer "Superman"?

(The above was my face, when I read my feeds this morning ... "stunned", I was...)

"Henry Cavill is not going to be "Superman"?" But what about "Clark Kent"? Doesn't anyone care about Clark?

Woke up to this news splashed over my social media feeds, and my geekfrens' feeds, and had been mildly gawking at the notion, and realising it might not have/wil affect me as much as it has been the "history" of "Superman", much less fictional characters in media, only that this news happened "so close" to the Justice League movie ...

(The above is what a lot of people are feeling, with Cavill "leaving" the role...)

This slice of Earth-Shattering news started when the trades - in this particular case, The Hollywood Reporter mentioning on "talks breaking down for a cameo in Shazam" due to scheduling conflicts, and the door is now closing on other potential appearances for the actor."

I mean, couldn't the filmmakers do a CGI-render of Cavill in the scene, like they fabulously did his moustache in Justice League? ... yes, I went there... :p

A statement from a Warner Bros. spokesperson after the initial publication of the story on THR has since been added;
"We have a great relationship and great respect for Henry Cavill that continues to remain unchanged. Additionally we have made no current decisions regarding any upcoming Superman films,"
Warner Bros are reported looking towards focusing on "new" projects, one of which was a focus on a new "Supergirl" film - which I still think is a much better option that hurriedly rebooting their recent franchises - perhaps choosing to expand their Film Universe first could be the current course of action?

(Alex Ross' render of Superman FTW)

But think of it this way, the Justice League movie came 4 years after "Man of Steel" (2013), which debuted Henry Cavill as the Kryptonian ... while 7 years before that, it has been Brandon Routh in the Bryan Singer-directed feature ("Superman Returns" 2006)... and a whopping 19 years before, the late Christopher Reeve donned the red cape and tights in the 4th big-screen Superman movie. Not to mention the small-screen incarnations of Tyler Hoechlin in "Supergirl", and before that Dean Cain in "Lois and Clark" in the 90s ("Smallville" does not really count, except for the finale" :p). So yeah, as the "S" stands for "hope", we'll not need to worry if we'll ever "lose" Superman in any context, maybe just not "Henry Cavill" for now... although, as "Lois" said, "..here, it's an ass..." ... or maybe I heard wrongly?

Will we ever get to have a "better" and more memorable Superman than Cavill's? But then again, nobody has stated he had been "fired" from this role, haven't they? I'll like to interpret this particular IG-videp Mr Cavill had uploaded post-internet world-wind reaction s: "Superman will fly again! But not for now..." although the music backing track totally gives away the ridiculousness of the social media hoopla :P

Let the "other" characters get their own movies first (Wonder Woman x 2, Auqaman, The Flash) ... heck, we've seen plenty of BATMAN too, haven't we? Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck ... who's next?

Don't worry, they'll have someone to don the suit ... it is in their best interests to do so to earn our geek-money ... pst that maybe some5imes their choices might not be what we want, so we'll flood the socialmediawww about our displeasure, no worries.

Looking forward to be seeing Henry Cavill in "The Witcher" on Netflix! It would be quite a shame JUST to see him as "Superman", no? :)

Cheers
