#Godzilla: King of Monsters on #POPCORNX (May 26/2019 Edition)
"King of the Monsters follows the heroes of cryptozoological defense force Monarch, as they fight to save our world when Titans rise to re-claim the earth. When these ancient superspecies—thought to be ancient myths—leave the very fate of humanity hanging in the balance, Monarch and the mighty Godzilla will collide with Mothra, Rodan, and Godzilla’s ultimate nemesis, King Ghidorah in an epic monster battle that will decide who shall rightfully claim the throne as King of the Monsters."
I swiped the above text off a toy-listing for "Godzilla: King of the Monsters", and have since decided to host a variety of video & collectibles toy-news in a single blogpost on POPCORNX today! Scroll thru, and I hope you'll be able to find something you'll enjoy!
I thought I'd start this blogpost off with this: Before "GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS", the trio of "Titans" were first teased at the end credits of 2017's "Kong: Skull Island" (above video). After director Gareth Edwards' 2014 "Godzilla", the mere insinuation of this trio of Kaiju versus Godzilla, felt ludicrous and unthinkable for a feeble ind like mine ... and now, after numerous trailers and spots, I CANNOT WAIT to watch it! And only after this, would I have able to freak out over the third Hollywood-celluloid Godzilla, with "Godzilla vs. Kong" in 2020!
One of the latest tv promos (and they are coming on more frequent as the premiere draws near too) is this "Knock You Out" Spot, using LL Cool J's 1990 hit song "Mama Said Knock You Out", for the upcoming May 31st premiere on U.S. screens, May 29th in Singapore and I'm certainly hoping it'll knock MY socks off on the big-screens! And that (Molten) Lava Godzilla tho...!
While searching for "Godzilla: KoM" toys (and there are plentiful of similar variety from multiple mass toy-brands like Bandai and Jakks Pacific etc), the one that stands out to me, are from Bandai Tamashii Nations S.H.'s "MonsterArts", which includes GODZILLA and KING GHIDORAH.
MonsterArts Godzilla is available online here for US$69.99 (Sized: 5.1 x 6.2 x 7.8 inches), with the sculpt based on the same 3D data used in the film itself, and overseen by legendary sculptor Yuji Sakai (known in Japan as the "leading figure of Godzilla modeling" / interviewed on gigazine.net), featuring "accurate proportions, details, and coloration".
Also available online here for US$179.99 is MonsterArts King Ghidorah (Sized: 6.3 x 19.6 x 13.7 inches), with sculpt also based on the same 3D data used in the film itself, and overseen by Shinichi Wakasa (Founder of MONSTERS Inc., a sculpting company that created the kaiju suits for the majority of every Toho-produced Godzilla film from 1993 to 2004 / wikizilla.org). The set includes King Ghidorah, and a stage.
BUT, if you are less impressed with the "prestige" of "creator" names, here are a few links to Amazon purchases for boxed playsets (and something more my own personal financial range, I have to admit, so I'm not judging anyone here!), with my fave being the "King of the Monsters Battlepacks" from Jakks, which includes two 3.5-inch tall monster figures, and a background scene (which I really appreciate)! I also noticed the "Monarch" logo on all the toy-boxes too, becoming the by-default branded logo ... is Monarch going into the "toy-business" too? :p
If you are not already a Godzilla-fan and collector, understand that "Godzilla" toys have been around for AGES, and there are MULTIPLE incarnations to be had, from numerous media (films and TV) and non-media, listed everywhere! So if you are looking for the 2019 movie-related toys specifically, do take note of the "Godzilla: King Of Monsters" literal worded-listing ... ALSO, there is a 1956 Japanese-American kaiju film named "Godzilla, King of the Monsters!" too (Read more on Wikipedia), so stay sharp! Here's the classic trailer (VHS Capture) for your viewing pleasures :)
And with that flashback, here's a fan-made version of the 2019 trailer, done in the vein of the 1956 trailer (by D Man1954).
This Godzilla Electronic Mask will go well with this Child Godzilla Costume, innit? Might need some work to alter the suit to fit an adult male, although I sincerely hope - and am not making fun of anyone here - that someone makes a thiccc Godzilla suit for folks (like me) to wear, no joke!
In the vein of this previous "65 Facts" promo, here's yet another frilly spot from Millie Bobby Brown and the cast of "Godzilla: King of Monsters", to promote the May 29th U.K. premiere.
I had been very intrigued with "The Art of Godzilla: King of the Monsters" Hardcover book (Available on Amazon at a discounted US$25.44 / List Price: $39.95), and had wanted to see Japanese original source kaiju being interpreted/adapted by Hollywood ... thank goodness for the following page-flip video! Published by Titan Books, at 176 pages, with this "Media Tie In" edition for a June 4, 2019 release.
Featured next is a time-lapse video from Thai artist known as "Siam Prehistoric", sculpting MOTHRA, and I am grateful not EVERYTHING is about Godzilla or King Ghidorah LOL
You might want to stay connected via his socials: Facebook / Instagram / YouTube.
If you've not already seen these GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS Q-Edition figures, then you might want to head HERE for more images! Alas the only currently online listing is this Taiwan listing. 6 Designs to collect, with each figure an average 8cm tall. Available blind-boxed, with a list price at $395 TWD (apparently the SRP is $390 / Unconfirmed), which works out to approx. US$13 / SG$17, excluding shipping ... but the point is ultimately moot, as the listing is only for purchases within Taiwan only!? Why is no one else offering this???
"Following the global success of “Godzilla” and “Kong: Skull Island” comes the next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ cinematic MonsterVerse, an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history. The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance."
