Tigertail - A Film by Alan Yang (Premieres April 10 on Netflix)

SYNOPSIS #1: "A man reflects on the lost love of his youth and his long-ago journey from Taiwan to America as he begins to reconnect with his estranged daughter."


SYNOPSIS #2: "A Taiwanese factory worker leaves his homeland to seek opportunity in America, where he struggles to find connection while balancing family and newfound responsibilities in this multi-generational drama from writer-director Alan Yang."

Starring Tzi Ma, Christine Ko, Hayden Szeto, Hong-Chi Lee, Kunjue Li, Fiona Fu, James Saito, with Joan Chen, "TIGERTAIL:" premieres April 10th on Netflix.


That last line: "There are many things I never told you", is perhaps a poignant line that reflected a entire generation of men, who had decided in their lives not to share their thoughts, or of what happened to them - not just because they are conditioned to not show weakness or fear, and also to not burden other folks. My late father was one of them, who opened up more at the later stage of his life, by even allowing himself to tear at television dramas, at least in front of me.

Regardless of the intent of this film, this is how it speaks to me, as a person of Chinese descent, living in Singapore.
