WATCHED: By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture (2019)
"Lee Chan Woo runs a nightclub. A drug case that draws the name of a famous entertainer takes place. Lee Chan Woo knows that the prosecution and politicians will get involved. He decides to investigate the drug case by himself. He gathers together people including Sung Eun Young and Park Ki Hun."
Also known as "양자물리학", "Yangjamullihak", and "By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture", this 2019 Korean feature film (Runtime: 120 min) stars a predominantly (nearly) all-make cast including Kim Eung Soo, Kim Sang Ho, Kim Won Shik, Park Hae Soo, and the abject rose amongst the thorns; Seo Ye Ji - last seen in "It's Okay TO Not Be Okay", and the reason I decided to watch the film thru, beyond the trailers I'd come across online.
Directed by Lee Seong-Tae ("Derailed", 2016), this is a slick and straight forward South Korean feature which traverses the murky divide - or should I call it "that similar sewage" - that which is politics and gangster-life, gleaming with the luxury nightlife, this venture of a destructive collaboration waiting to explode.
The actors make this film, and the subtle fashion styling adds class to the otherwise take seen and experienced in many a similarly told tale - a tale of dashed hopes and foiled plans, a tale of deception and treachery, a tale of righteous revenge, a familiar heist ... all of which are familiar ingredients of a decent watch, I might add. A slice above the average, I dare say...
This film won Park Hae Soo "Best New Actor" in the 2019 (40th) Blue Dragon Film Awards, deservedly so.
Seo Ye Ji is gorgeous here, a walk-in closet and a couple of catwalk-steps behind It's Okay To Not Be Okay though, but I had a chance to relive my celeb crush and IOTNBO-withdrawals by watching this, I admit ... but ultimately "forgettable", compared to "Mun-Yeong" lor... Go watch Lawless Lawyer the series instead, if she is your focus of undivided attention LOL
