Pre-Trailer Breakdown for "THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS"
WARNING: There will be direct SPOILERS mentioned and referred to the THE MATRIX, THE MATRIX RELOADED and THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS, including video clips from the movies!
A few select scenes have been showcased on whatisthematrix.com - at least from my POV from last night til this morning. And while I had previously posted stills, here in this standalone blogpost I will attempt to collate select images and showcase a breakdown of (suggested) scenes - along with my own synopsis - in anticipation of the trailer release this Thursday September 9th, which I suspect will feature these scenes anyways.
I will check out whatisthematrix.com on "Sept 8" to see if there are any new imagery+footage (based on a "24-hour cycle"), and add to this post if possible / need be, and yes, I am having fun with this! LOL
NEO IN THE CITY (DAY)
We see NEO (Keanu Reeves) in a brightened metropolitan cityscape during a bright sunny day. The lens flare on the cityscape reminds us instinctively of the finale of 2003's "The Matrix Revolutions", where the Oracle tells "Sati" that "she thinks they will see Neo again as Sati reveals she created a beautiful sunrise over the horizon in Neo's honor." (wiki), and the proceedings seem to happened immediately after that... but of course time or timeline has passed, and NEO now has long hair ... or perhaps he now lives in a parallel universe of "John Wick" (heh).
It seems NEO is looked on as a "messiah" by the citizens?
NEO continues to face off against some unknown entity on a rooftop, reliving the scene in "THE MATRIX", when NEO rescues Laurence Fishburne's MORPHEUS from the clutches of AGENT SMITH (played by Hugo Weaving). Here's a video from the 1999's feature:
NEO IN THE CITY (NIGHT)
It took a while (and a few revisions) before I decided that ultimately, the following scene of NEO entering "Simulatte" would begin the "night fight in the city"-sequence (imagining it is actually ONE NIGHT where all the following happened) - which we then see NEO flexing his powers indoors repelling the huge army of armed personal against him!
NEO in the city at night (very "John Wick" or at best "Blade Runner 2049"-esque), and about to enter Simulatte", with the interior looking much like a deja vu of the the infamous "lobby" scene in "The Matrix" (see clip below), against a army of armed (masked) enforcement folks.
NEO then proceeds to the city-streets, where he is again surrounded buy folks - who have been turned into "Agents" against him, reminding us of his confrontation against countless MR SMITH dups (played by Hugo Weaving) as seen in "The Matrix Revolutions" (see video clip after the following stills), although they had squared off against each other other times as well...
Seems that NEO is re-experiencing past fights? Or is NEO "searching" for someone? Would that someone be "Trinity"? Or would it be "Morpheus"? He looks to be "alone", so perhaps he might not be "rescuing" anyone anytime soon....?
NEO ON A BIKE CRUSHING A CAR WITH HIS POWERS
NEO on a bike (reminded me of "John Wick" tho LOL) and crushing a car with his outright open palm. NEO still has control of his "powers", as he did in "The Matrix Revolutions".. but maybe NOT "full power", as he needed a motorbike to travel, rather than be able to fly, as seen in the finale of 1999's "The Matrix".
NEO AND TRINITY
NEO does meet Trinity, but she pulls away from him. Is the confrontation a mirror to their fate in the trilogy earlier? Or has Trinity since decided to remain in the fictional world instead?
Or has NEO been with TRINTY the whole time - living their lives together since the last Matrix trilogy - but this time NEO explains that he has to leave her to rescue the "new Chosen One", and she is upset that he has chosen "him" over her?
JONATHAN GROFF
Jonathan Groff's character in a suit is seen explaining The Matrix to someone, and where his identity is replaced, will a callback to 1999's "The Matrix" when "Thomas Anderson" (Matrix-world "Neo") was in the interrogation room (seen clip below).
I think Jonathan is talking to who would be "Morpheus" in this film, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. For purposes of this blogpost, I will be referring him as "Morpheus" for the time being, cheers.
RED OR BLUE PILL?
The Red Pill or Blue Pill choice is evoked, and the persons' cinematic fate is decided. I've always been intrigued with the red/blue, as of course it is a "symbolic" gesture, but this scene where an entire pill bottle is filled with blue pills spilling over, seemed to suggest a different scenario now, or maybe a evolved situation? Even the premise of the whatismatrix.com is informed by your decision (it seems) - Click on the RED pill and you'll witness scenes from the "real world", or click on the BLUE pill, where you'll see scenes from the "Matrix-world".
Are the pills now an "addiction"? None-too-subtly causing citizens to CHOOSE the Blue? Based on the lore: BLUE allows you to remain IN the Matrix, while the RED helps you become aware, the "truth". We actually see NEO consuming the BLUE pill...! But looks like he is in "disguise", based on the mirror reflection of "someone" else...!
There is a particular scene where a bottle of blue pills are scattered unto the bathroom sink (mirroring the scene where spent bullet-casings fell in a cascade, in the "helicopter rescue" scene, IMHO), which wuld be utterly-COOL if that was the intention tho :)
ESCAPE FROM THE MATRIX
The following is a scene/clip from "The Matrix" where we witness the "rescue" of Neo, and would serve as a visual reference and reminder of what separates the "real world" and the "Matrix-conceived world"...
Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (in a undisclosed/unnamed role) is seen both in what I think is an escape (a "rescue"?) from the pods (is that the "Logos" captained by "Niobe" - played by Jada Pinkett Smith?), and accepting this role in the fictional world, as seen with him interacting with the mirror in the bathroom? Like NEO himself did before?
I've also wondered if that was "Nebuchadnezzar" - which was destroyed in the previous trilogy, as this is a "time loop" and not a "sequel"? Or am I thinking too "linear"-ly? LOL
NEO FIGHTS MORPHEUS
Of course "MORPHEUS" meets NEO, and they recreate the "Sparring Program" dojo fight-scene (below scene from "The Matrix") where NEO tests out his martial arts skills after learning "kung fu" uploaded directly into his brain.
The roles have been switched round this time, with the former "student" now the "teacher", and the cycle continues forth? "Stop trying to hit me, and HIT ME"!
What I felt too was "interesting" (although it just mine be a "homage" rather than story), was that the "Morpheus" character was wearing a RED robe, possibly a reference to " Final Flight Of Osiris" from "The Animatrix" (the animated sequel to "The Matrix")?
DEJA VU IN THE MATRIX
There are NUMEROUS callbacks, which directly references the "Déjà vu" aspect of The Matrix ("explained" in the video clip above)- which was represented by the black cat in the first film, and where we also see scenes from the trilogy before, including Trinity being cornered by law enforcement, and the confrontation/fight with AGENT SMITH in the underground subway.
Multiple glitches in the system, as the Matrix constantly adapts and changes itself - a self-learning sentiment entity which would logically continue to evolve too? Learn from their "countless mistakes"? Or are they too caught in a "time loop" themselves, everyone destined to repeat themselves, unto eternity? But that was "broken" in the trilogy before, no? If The Matrix pulls a "multiverse" ah...! But then again, they did it first before the MCU, innit? Heh.

BELOW: Screengrabs from whatisthematrix.com
I do not think this is the "Trinity" we known from the trilogy before, but perhaps a new persona (notice the braided long hair instead of Carrie-Ann Moos' short hair), but in a repeated cycle/loop? Or maybne it IS the Trinity we all know, but her hair has grown out (as much as Neo's did :p), and thaty they are reliving their actions over-and-over again? Imagine "The Matrix Resurrections" strarts exactly the same as 1999's "The Matrix" did?

JESSICA HENWICK
We see a blue-coloured shot-haired Jessica Henwick fighting in what looked like a out-of-focus "Morpheus", so I am intrigued what this scene could be, what The Matrix has done, and of Jessica's role is a "guest walk on", than a reoccurring one, as might be Jonathan Groff's.
A clue is in another scene in a hallway (which I propose is followed by another still of someone jumping out a window of the building), where perhaps Jessica's character finds and helps Morpheus' character escape, and she ends up being caught instead? Or killed? And her Bluetooth ear-piece destroyed? Technology has caught up to The Matrix where they do not need a "landline" to call up...?
There are a few other images and footage shown, including a arm holding a gun (with tattooed fingers) exits a mirror, and the above footage of what looks to be NEO about to walk thru an exceedingly brightly lit doorway on a rooftop - possibly returning / entering "The Matrix"? And WHO is the person standing next to him, showing him the door?
Part of me is intrigued-AF hahahaha but another huge part of me don't really want to "know" (as yet), and would rather be surprised by the film. Having watched and been a fan of "The Matrix" franchise (thru all it's good AND bad), OI would really hope there'll be something "NEW" to witness with "Resurrections", rather than fear it being yet-another-reharshing of classics. We shall see...
"The Matrix Resurrections" is produced, co-written, and directed by Lana Wachowski, who had direct the first trilogy (along with Lily Wachowski, who does not return for this film though). "The Matrix Resurrections" will be the fourth installment in The Matrix film series.
Wiki also stated that this 'film will be a joint production by Village Roadshow Pictures and Venus Castina Productions and is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures theatrically on December 22, 2021; it will also stream digitally on the ad-free tier of HBO Max in the United States for a month beginning on that same date.'
Keanu Reeves returns as "Neo", as does Carrie-Anne Moss as "Trinity". Laurence Fishburne apparently does not return as "Morpheus"., while Yahya Abdul-Mateen II join the principals.
The cast (on IMDb) also includes Christina Ricci, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Daniel Bernhardt is "Agent Johnson", and the return of "Merovingian" (last seen in "The Matrix Revolutions"), which also means he might well be the vessel for exposition lol. The cast list also includes Eréndira Ibarra, Brian J. Smith and Max Riemelt - all of whom are alumni from "Sense8" (created by Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski).
