STUDY GROUP (스터디그룹) My Spoilerish Review

School students be fighting in Japan (with CROWS ZERO) and now in South Korea, with latest kdrama "STUDY GROUP", from CJ ENM! Featured here are my watch-impesssions/review, plus spoiler-ful clips from Ep.3 and Ep.4, cheers

SYNOPSIS: Everyone who knows Ga Min will think that he’s a model student who always tops at school. He lives a well-regulated life, works out every day, and studies with passion. Even though he puts everything into studying and loves to study, he never gets a good grade. Actually, he always competes for the last in school, which is a mystery. He gets into Yusung Technical High School, and he wants to start with a clean state. He decides to form a study group to find the right learning methods and get good grades. However, Yusung is known for its students being delinquent, and there are rumors that the school has a connection with a local gang. And Ga Min finds a special talent he has as he gets into unexpected troubles. (Via viu.com)

"Study Group" (스터디그룹) is based off webcomic "Study Group" written by Shin Hyeong-Wook & illustrated by Yoo Seung-Yeon (first published January 5, 2019 via Naver), and the resulting live-action scenarios feeling that they were ripped off the pages (*even if I've not read them :p), and one of the main reasons I have been enjoying the KDRAMA, with thus far 4 episodes broadcasted at time of this blog-feature.

Some of the characters are wonderfully cliched and their circumstances renewed-tropes, and I appreciate the predictability of the situations but continually look forward to be surprised, and I continually am, with the characters' reactions and actions, and I love that!

Minhyun (Former member of K-pop group NU'EST & "Wanna One") as the study-clueless but strongest fighter "Yoon Ga-Min" is a frustrating delight to witness (different to his role as "Seo Yul" in "Alchemy of Souls"), and charmed by Shin Soo-Hyun as "Lee Ji-Woo" (first seen her in "Duty After School") with her nonchalant tsundere demeanour, is fun.

Minhyun's Mission: To form a study group, so that he could literally study to be better than being the second last in test and class he's in. And that he does by episode four, and I cannot wait to see what happens next!

The first 4 episodes is essentially the "quest" to fulfil the requirement of needing "5 members" to form the Study Group/Club, to be acknowledged officially by Yusung Technical High School. As well we are introduced to each member and their circumstances that have led to the point of being recruited. There's also the element of the (freelance) teacher with a mystery-past, meant to intrigue us, no doubt.

One aspect of the series (thus far) is the presentation of the show in a realistic no-nonsense style, without making it hyper-realistic with cartoony effects (well, not that often :p), but with the taut humour of an fast-paced KDRAMA, without the "realistic reactionary pauses", while communicating the story efficiently, so that we could savour the fights when they happen, and not needing to "wait" impatiently for the fights, IMHO.

There is no need to wonder about the physics involved in Minhyun being able to jump down a three story classroom to land a knock-out punch and achieve a "superhero-landing", because that's the point of the drama, so enjoy it and no need to question it LOL

Consisting of 10 episodes total, this rated "NC16" kdrama (no doubt due to the vulgarity constantly spewing from the students, and of course "fighting in school") broadcasts/airs every Thursdays and Fridays in South Korea (TVing), currently watchable for free here on viu.com, cheers.
