Ghost in the Shell
2029: A female cybernetic government agent, Major Motoko Kusanagi, and the Internal Bureau of Investigations are hot on the trail of "The Puppet Master," a mysterious and threatening computer virus capable of infiltrating human hosts. Together with her fellow agents from Section 9, Kusanagi embarks on a high-tech race against time to capture the omnipresent entity. Director Mamoru Oshii's award-winning cyber-tech thriller, based on the comic book by Masamune Shirow, has established itself as one of the leading Japanese animation films of all time.
Literally pivotal in my consumption of anime, with my first viewing via VHS (purchased at thy local comicbook shop), and even with the resolution, had me on the edge of my seat and sanity, even more heightened so after consuming it on DVD, but I never had the pleasure of watching this on the silver screen.... Thus "envy" consumes me, as the news of Mamoru Oshii X Masamune Shirow's "Ghost in the Shell" 1995 anime film returning to U.S. Theaters September 18, 2026, in 4K no less (for the first time).
Although sometimes I wonder if by sticking to the original memories would be more impactful than to relive it again...?
1995's #GhostintheShell gets a 4K remaster & heading to U.S.theaters for September 18, 2026 re-release!
