Top Gun: Maverick - My Impressions, Honest Trailers & Cuyler Smith Art

I've since watched TOP GUN MAVERICK twice. When I first posted the trailers, I did not expect I'll be watching the movie at all, to be honest ... and yet here I am.

I did not have such a wondrous impression of "Top Gun" when I first watched it, although I continued to watch it on reruns on the telly ages after, so whatever "nostalgia" appeal folks online have been mentioning, probably did rub off, at least appealing to my curiosity, and ultimately enjoying the drama which unfolded, without needing to hold on tight to it's predecessor 36 years back.

Ultimately it was an emotional journey for a middle-aged man navigating a world which might have left him behind (#canrelate), and the triumphant journey he had taken, which the world ultimately still needed him for. The stark contrast between who he was in the 1986 film, and who he has grown to be, personally is the key for me.

Amidst the clear story-telling, there is a feeling of "growth" and the passing of time, inherent to the period of the films, and that is something worthy of relishing, IMHO.

Here are a few select goodies to share, starting with Honest Trailers!

Artist Cuyler Smith has depicted the film's characters into double-sided trading prints, with Maverick, Rooster, Hangman and Phoenix card set available via nineteeneightyeight.com starting 11AM PT on September 6th. Further product updates via Insta @galleries1988, cheers.
