And while I understand and acknowledge the pop-culture significance of this video game (alongside Mortal Kombat), I was not a fervent player nor admirer, and upon first seeing the teasers of this life-action film, was actually quite turned off. "Trying too hard" to emulate the neon-soaked colors of the game, with cartoonish-caricatures of the characters, which I of course compared to the Van-Damme starred version of the live-action decades back, which I adored the kitschiness of it then, a period of my life which I'll never get back...
Then I saw THIS trailer, which delivered more "story" than I had anticipated, and begun to appreciate the characters and the colors, for the modern-day-lens of POP CULTURE KITSCH, byway "John Wick", and I find myself looking forward to watching this...! "What's Up" certainly helped sweeten the deal for me ... and now my allegiance wavers...! LOL Or maybe it's all just another cyclical phase I am going thru now... :p
