MARVEL STUDIOS Phase Four (& Beyond?) Films & TV on DisneyPlus

WARNING: *SPOILERS FOR MCU MOVIES MENTIONED IN THIS POST*

Marvel Studios revealed an exciting slate of projects coming to our small screens in 2021, at a time when studios begin to shun movie theatres (from Disney to Warner Bros), in favour of personal home entertainment, IMHO. Regardless these were what were announced today, as featured on @MarvelStudios Twitter (Some projects will have their own standalone blogposts, thanks). as mart of PHASE FOUR of the MCU ("Marvel Cinematic Universe"), and beyond?

WANDAVISION features Scarlet Witch and The Vision in a dedicated focus on American sitcoms, which I only just realised would be "Wanda Maximoff"'s point-of-view as a "outsider" (native of fictional "Sokovia") viewing American sitcoms (as am I, an Asian middle-aged man living in Asia :p), and her perceptions of said sitcoms and how it might impact her "life", and that of The Vision - who essentially "died" in Avengers: Infinity War ... or at least his physical body did...

Marvel Studios' Original Series WandaVision streams January 15th, 2021 on DisneyPlus.

Marvel Studios' THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER sees the odd-couple pairing of Sam "The Falcon" Wilson constantly "ragging" on "Bucky "The Winter Soldier" Barnes", plus mondo-more visuals seen here (compared to previous), with streaming scheduled to start March 19th, 2021 on DisneyPlus.

"The legacy of that shield is complicated." No offence, but I certainly hope to see MORE of the characters, than the shield itself. The sequence with The Falcon flying thru the mountains is AMAZING.

The tagline for Marvel Studios' LOKI reads "Glorious." = and from what we were treated to in this exclusive clip (of various scenes, but NOT a "trailer"), I'd heartily agree! Coming to DisneyPlus in May 2021. @lokiofficial

"Space. Time. Reality. It's more than linear path." Truthfully, THIS was what I had been looking forward to (and I'll have another standalone blogpost to ramble on :p), with the animated "WHAT IF…?" coming to DisneyPlus in Summer 2021.

Marvel Studios introduces the life action regional series coming in late 2021, wth "MS. MARVEL", and as well the announcement of Iman Vellani as "Kamala Khan", whom we see in the sizzle reel released...!

Original Avenger Jeremy Renner returns to star as "Hawkeye", teaming up with Marvel Comics character, "Kate Bishop" - to be played by Hailee Steinfeld. There have been a number of paparazzi-snaps of the couple during filming (plus "Lucky The Pizza Dog"), and seen all over socials the past week.

Additional cast include Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee and newcomer Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez (AKA "Echo"), as well as (unannounced) Florence Pugh as "Yelena Belova" / "Black Widow", with episodes directed by Rhys Thomas ("Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt", "Comrade Detective"), and directing duo Bert and Bertie ("Troop Zero").

MORE FEATURE FILMS:

Peyton Reed is back to direct his third Ant-Man film, revealed to be named "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania". Actors Paul Rudd ("Scott Lang"), Evangeline Lilly ("Hope Van Dyne / Wasp"), Michael Douglas ("Dr. Hank Pym"), and Michelle Pfeiffer ("Janet Van Dyne / Wasp") all return. Kathryn Newton joins the cast as "Cassie Lang" (a teenage daughter of Scott, which other means we've aged in time, or time travel is involved, yet again :p), and Jonathan Majors ("Lovecraft Country") as "Kang the Conqueror" - which FINE, means that there WILL BE TIME TRAVEL involved...! LOL

"FANTASTIC FOUR" will return as a feature film, to be directed by Jon Watts ("Spider-Man: Homecoming", "Spider-Man: Far from Home" and "Untitled Spiderman Sequel")! No cast announced, no plot revealed, but just the fact that Fantastic Four is officially on the slate now!

"Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness" now have a premiere date of "March 25, 2022". The sequel to 2016's "Doctor Strange", this feature film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, & Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film ties to WandaVision & the next Spider-Man film.

Academy Award-winning actor Christian Bale ("Bruce Wayne/Batman" for Christopher Nolan) will join the cast of "Thor: Love and Thunder" as the villain "Gorr the God Butcher". In theaters May 6, 2022.

Production has just wrapped for "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" (amidst a global pandemic, no less), and a cast breakdown has been revealed (see above image). The big screen feature is scheduled to premiere in theaters July 9th, 2021.

Brie Larson returns as Carol Danvers in Marvel Studios' "Captain Marvel 2", directed by Nia DaCosta (@NiaDaCosta / "Little Woods", "Candyman"). Joining the cast are recently announced Ms. Marvel, Iman Vellani, and Monica Rambeau played by WandaVision's Teyonah Parris. Captain Marvel 2 flies into theaters November 11th, 2022.

MORE DISNEYPLUS OFFERINGS:

Don Cheadle returns as "James Rhodes" aka "War Machine" in new series "ARMOUR WARS". A classic Marvel story about Tony Stark’s worst fear coming true: what happens when his tech falls into the wrong hands? Unknown if this will be a "live-action" project, or "animated" (My bet is on the latter). I wonder if this'll be in any way tired to the 7-issue comic book story-arc in the late-80s (Wikipedia)?

Announced is "IRONHEART", featuring Dominique Thorne as the comicbook character genius inventor "Riri Williams", who made/posses "the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man". I have zero opinion on this, as I have not had the pleasure of reading this arc, but seeing as "Tony Stark" is no longer alive in the MCU, it stands to reason "someone" needs to step up t the mantle (as it were). Regardless, no current indication is this is "live-action" or "animated" (voiced by)...?

Samuel L. Jackson is back as "Nick Fury", and Ben Mendelsohn from Captain Marvel returns as the Skrull "Talos" in Marvel Studios' Original Series "Secret Invasion", coming to DisneyPlus.

"She-Hulk arrives to the MCU! Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black") will portray "Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk" and Tim Roth returns as the "Abomination" ("Emil Blonsky" from OMG from 2008's Louis Leterrier-directed "The Incredible Hulk") AND Hulk himself, Mark Ruffalo (hereby bridging all HULK personas on screen lol), will appear in the series. Directed Kat Coiro and Anu Valia, She-Hulk is coming to DisneyPlus.

"Moon Knight", an Original Series about a complex vigilante, is coming to DisneyPlus. Casting rumours flew before this day, but nothing was confirmed as yet, so....

James Gunn is back to write and direct "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special for DisneyPlus in 2022.

Everyone’s favorite little tree, Baby Groot, will star in a series of shorts on Disney+ featuring several new and unusual characters, which I am assuming is an "animated" project? Versus "realistic computer renders"? I have zero point of reference, sorry :p

"I Am Groot", an Original Series from Marvel Studios, is coming to #DisneyPlus... So my question is, DID BABY GROOT PAVE THE WAY FOR BABY YODA? ... Regardless, both Babies now reside with Disney, so it doesn't real matter which way around anymore, does it? HEH.
