I'VE SUMMER FILM
Featured here today is a "Summer Film" for South Korean rookie girl group IVE, released in anticipation and promotion of their comeback with ‘"After Like" (Watch MV online here, which is utterly different from the "Summer Film" shown), for which I'd hoped to feature on POPCORNX before the MV dropped, but...
Their "Summer Film" features a loosely-scripted narrative/narration of how the girls think of each other as friends. And while I am not delving specifically into the "story", I am very interested in the "visuals" - not of the girls themselves (sorry, ladies), but of the conditions portrayed in this 3+minuter short.
"Technically", we have environments that are outdoors daytime, wet conditions outdoor, night conditions outdoor, and night indoor = Conditions for which would make a great lesson objective for first time filmmakers, in terms of cinematography and lighting conditions, and of course art direction and wardrobe. There is a lesson to be had in the entire short!
Shot and edited like a indie film, bursting at its experimental aesthetics, harking back to the early Chris Doyle, reminding me specifically of his "Away With Words" feature. The visuals here are very "film"-like (as opposed to digitally filmed), which young'uns might equate with "filters", when in fact (Old Man Me'll sound off next) the grainy texture is film from back in the analog days, desaturated and contrasted in post production.
Production was by @filmbyteam & @hausofteam, directed by @rohsangyoon. envimedia.co reported that "the narration or text is credited to Chung Se Rang, a Korean writer who received the Changbi Prize in Fiction in 2013 and Hankook Ilbo Literary Award in 2017."
