Season 3 of #SquidGame premieres June 27, 2025, and hopefully I'll have a decent closure to my unsatisfying watch of S2 https://t.co/E9INOpIGtp

MY SPOILER(ISH) IMPRESSIONS OF SEASON 1: A sense of dissatisfaction lingers, with the story dangled in the finale for Season 3 to perhaps experience any semblance of closure, very much unlike the self-contained Season 1, which honestly you'll need to watch, to be able to understand what is shown in S2. Not necessarily "understood" though, as the motivations of Player 456 somewhat guides the sequences and circumstances unfold, alongside the detective searching for his brother.

Perhaps to many, it's the "games" that interest viewers, as it is something perhaps easier to grasp and "relate to" ("humanity" versus the crushing desperation of poverty which I am not fully accustomed to), than the motivations of the participants, for which an abundance of screen-time had been devoted to, perhaps for viewers to invest their attention to? So when they "die on-screen", it might be more impactful?
The fictional characters in S1 seemed more "believable", while folks in S2 seemed scripted with a heap serving of "diversity". The Mother and Son dynamic was as interesting as the trans-ex-soldier, but make no mistake, the characters were well acted and presented, but felt like a checklist ticked off on, IMHO.
Frontman as a contestant was by far the "best surprise" that was spoilt (at least for me) via online reveals, which was a waste in and of itself.
Childhood Games Desperate People Play, for a Chance At Redemption of their Debts. And now that there'll be "international" versions of Squid Game(s) too? How dystopian is that? LOL
MY RECOMMENDATION: Watch S2 only to be able to tell folks "I watched Squid Game!", with fast-forwarding scenes you might not miss much, honestly. But if you are keen to understand the KDRAMA, watch S1 first, but be warned you might be underwhelmed. Personally I'd suggest you keep S2 until S3 premieres June 27th, so you can binge watch it all the way through, cheers.
