"To create a top-tier trauma center, a war-seasoned doctor arrives — bringing his blunt but skilled ways to transform his team into life-saving mavericks."
"The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" (중증외상센터) is a 8-episoder KDRAMA (Rated NC16) currently streaming on Netflix. Starring Ju Ji-Hoon, Choo Yeong-Woo and Ha-Young, this "medical drama" is based on web novel "Joongjeunguesangcenter: Golden Hour” by Hansanyiga (published from March 21, 2019 to February 19, 2022 via Naver).
SYNOPSIS: Baek Kang-hyuk joins a university hospital known for its struggling trauma team. His arrival shakes things up as he possesses exceptional surgical skills honed through experience in conflict zones worldwide. His unorthodox methods and unwavering confidence initially clash with the existing team. However, he gradually earns their respect and leads them towards becoming a top-tier trauma unit. (Wiki).
Honestly a rip-roaring adventure ride thru the otherwise mundane medical drama, with a focus on it's two primaries: The abusive genius "Dr Baek" (played by Ju Ji-Hoon) and the "voice" & deer-in-headlights & awe POV of the show, "Anus" eerrr... I meant "Dr Yang" (played Choo Yeong-Woo). My favourite is Nurse Cheon Jang-mi (Nicknamed "Gangster", played by Ha Young), with their character interactions a delight to behold, as chaotic as they most times are.
Other supporting characters are played often in entertaining slapstick hyper reactions, tempered by real world medical sombreness and story-arcs interesting developed within the confines of the 8 eps, played so fast pace, you might not even have the time to take a breather to acknowledge most "changes", but nothing to sling eggs for, I insist.
Conquering his patients' aliments and biased hospital administration, Dr Baek finds his way to his former employer (talk about a "climax"), and himself in the hospital bed (talk about a climax) all within the last two episodes too.
This drama is essentially a character-based series, with situations falling by the wayside, and the production was done well enough for you not to notice anything beyond said characters, so kudos for the "distract" LOL
Ultimately it is uber-fun binge, and I'd like to think this'll go down in 2025 as one of the best KDRAMA I've enjoyed myself watching, this far (and it's just in the first month of 2025 too LOL)
