Was the JUSTICE LEAGUE we saw in cinemas different from the trailers before? (*SPOILERS ahead!)
UPDATED: Read this post for what had been cut / deleted / changed for JUSTIC LEAGUE! And while I can in no way assess the validity or authenticity of this post, it would’ve made one heck of an epic movie! Thanks for screwing it up, WB!
One of the thing(s) that surprised me so of JUSTICE LEAGUE, was the “final” version of the film I’d sat and watched on Saturday, versus the myriad of trailers, spots and promos I had been watching online, sat in front of my desktop computer!
Yes, folks, not everything you’ve been seeing online gets into the finished film! And “YES”, this particular post is *SPOILERS APLENTY*, so take heed ahead!
“Suprised” in a GOOD Way:
That I’d watched a slightly “different” film than expected - which in these days of pre-premiere promotional onslaught, most times film trailers force-feed you information, regardless if you are a fan of this particular genre, or more likely used to “educate” folks about WHO and WHAT’s going on in the film they are about to put $$$ down for in a darkened cinema, or chose to save said hard-earned-$$$ and watch via illegal downloads online (eventually) instead … and less likely about “convincing” already-fans-of-the-genre to watch it, than “what-the-film-is-about”, anyways, IMHO.
But then again, one might argue the studio not wanting to let fanboys be unnecessarily upset over a film that has yet to be screened, over the dismal trailers they’ve put out … or in the case of SUICIDE SQUAD, the trailers created MORE excitement that the final film incarnation could (*Full transparency, I liked the final film version ~ Heh)
“Surprised” in a BAD Way:
That whatever swell-one-liners or scenes you have relished from said trailers+promos, do/did not happen. I had chills hearing Diana Prince/Wonder Woman say ”Do not engage alone, we do this together,” in the trailer, and COULD NOT WAIT to relive said chills in the cinema, but never did happen!
“Flicks And The City” has done a swell video showcasing/describing the “missing” scenes - something which has plague plenty of pop culture videos of late, which hopefully will make it to the eventual DVD/Blu-Ray release, or perhaps even (planned) cinematic re-release with different cuts? (*Remember BvS?).
*FINAL SPOILER WARNING*

ADDED: IGN has also released a video depicting “All the Deleted Scenes Cut From Trailers”! Oh Dear…
Whether it due to the demands/restrictions placed on the filmmakers by the studio, or if Joss Whedon had changed the make up of the final film, the finished product is what we get to watch on the silver screens now, or even later as DVD/Blu-Ray Edition(s), and we may never truly find out exactly who did “what” … or perhaps some enterprising fellow(s) might do another video on their suspicions (based on individual director’s past styles) instead? Looking forward to that, tho! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Personally I would understand why there are critics and folks calling the film a “frankenstein monster”, because it quite literally is! Snyder’s unmistakable visual style, and Whedon’s humour seems an unfamiliar match at first (“Jarring” might sound a bit OTT, IMHO), but in reality, what I (personally) saw however, was an interesting mix. A “new” cocktail, perhaps?
Imagine if you will, if this cocktail succeeds, and Justice League goes on to break the box office, and achieve the accolades and profits of “Wonder Woman”-levels … and then imagine ALL OTHER DC FILMS to come out with the same cocktail-formula?
*Shudder*
In any case before THAT hypothetical even happens, the “struggle” for “Justice League” I suppose, is seeing/feeling thru both filmmaker’s “iconic” styles, and learning to enjoy the cocktail … or not.
On a personal note, I’ve always enjoyed Marvel films for their “humour”, and DC films for their intensity and visual styles (thanks Zack Snyder), as both instances provide us viewers/me a spread of different options and range to enjoy our geekdom, but the last thing I need or want, is to see the exact same thing on ALL films of this genre, just that the characters are wearing different “superhero / villain costumes”.
“Superhero Fatigue” is real, but I do not appreciate going towards “Absolute Genre Fatigue”, fhanks.
And NO, I am neither a MARVEL-fan, nor a DC-fan. I am a COMICBOOK CHARACTER FAN, first and foremost, and I want to be entertained, thanks! :)
Cheers
