Stop-motion Storybook Sequence for IT'S OKAY TO NOT TO BE OKAY
I finally watched the first episode of IT'S OKAY TO NOT TO BE OKAY K-Drama (on tvN and Netflix), and enjoyed the opening stop-motion sequence (which I did not expect), which was the manifestation of the fictional author's storybook (played by ravishing actress Seo Ye Ji, who is the series' main female protagonist, to main male lead Kim Soo-hyun), and I found out it was done by Stop-motion animator & Arttoy figure maker @oshorino! (Thanks to @coolrainlee)
It looked pretty wonderful and I'd wanted to share some BTS of it here, along with nuggets of info gleaned from the animator himself :)
Featured in this blogpost are some behind-the-scenes (time-lapse) clip, and if you are not going to watch the series (Episode One opening only), you can head here to view!
The character design was by illustrator Jamsan (I've embedded some of his sketches from @jamsan74 at the bottom of this feature-post) - whose art is featured pretty prominently in the tv series, used as both actual illustrations in the children's books, and as importantly a "flashback" story framing device meant to delve into the psyche of the author, often animated.
I loved that "Kang-tae"s autistic older brother "Moon Sang-tae" (played by Oh Jung-se) scribbles his own images in the books itself (He is an adoring fan of Author "Go Moon Young"), that will lend itself to the lore in time, I hope :)
The doll was based on the illustration (which was seen both in the story sequence and in the promotional poster - seen up top), with South Korean Comma Studio (who has also done wonderful work for "Cafe Wingcle TUBA") producing the entire stop motion animation, which was filmed by @oshorino himself!
The entire production took about 3 months, and the filming took about 10 weeks.
