The Story of ZOMBIE BOY in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (Episode 4)

WARNING: *SPOILERS MENTIONED IN THIS POST*

There are multiple animated sequences in It's Okay To Not Be Okay K-Drama, which were predominantly based on Ko Mu-Yeung's fairytale stories - with this particular tale featured in Episode 4, as narrated by Kim Soo-hyun (and Seo Yea-ji), featuring the art/illustration of Jamsan - with select images featured below, from his Insta @jamsan74.

This is the 2 & 1/2 minutes animated sequence.

The artwork was used in both the book prop and animated sequence in the episode, screen grabs of which are also showcased here. Also, you might notice the video sequence (more likely from tvN's broadcast) seen above is different to that of the Netflix version, which has Gang-tae reading and reacting to the book...

The usage of fairytales is essentially the expedition and explanation of the characters' psyche and spy for that particular episode. The story of ZOMBIE BOY directly triggers Gang-tae and his memories of his mother and his childhood (scenes which are further expanded on in a later episode), while for Mun-yeung, it reflects on her emotions/emotional state and psyche growing up. The "empty can" commentary earlier in this episode is probably addressed here as well, at least for the viewers' understanding of the character's emotional states.

With the finale happening this Sunday August 9th (on tvN and Netflix), I am quite eager to find out what tale happens next, in particular the new tale to be illustrated by "Sang-tae".
