Meet the 100 Contestants of Physical: 100 Season 2 - Underground
I remembered prepping for publication blogposts for 2023's "Physical: 100" reality TV show from South Korea, after my fruitful watch, but alas not completing said posts... now fast forward to "2024", where its sequel "PHYSICAL: 100 SEASON 2 - UNDERGROUND" has started it's promotional run, leading up to its premiere on Netflix March 19th, so here we are...!
WHAT-IS: One hundred contestants in top physical shape compete in a series of grueling challenges to claim the honor — and cash reward — as the last one standing.
Featured above is the trailer for the first series, broadcast 2023, with all 9 episodes currently watchable on Netflix (Maturity rating:PG13).
Each episode was broadcast weekly when it first aired, and I remember the anticipation for new episodes were pretty fevered, even though I'd only jumped in the middle of the series!
The series has its own share of "controversies", including a accusatory "rigged ending" (Plenty of YT-videos about this, which you can search for your own entertainment, cheers), but what fascinated me the most, were the post-show infamy of select contestants - from their own YouTube channels, to guesting on each other's videos, to brand name recognition, especially that of the already legendary Japanese mixed martial artist "Yoshihiro Akiyama" AKA Choo Sung-hoon (추성훈) AKA "Sexyama".
