CASTAWAY DIVA (Updated with my SPOILER Quickie Review of Ep 1+2)

REVIEW SPOILER UPDATE: The entirety (mostly) of Episode One was a look at the teenage "Seo Mok-Ha" (perfect casting of Lee Re), her back-story, trials and tribulations, before she was stranded on the deserted island, with a glimpse into her adult-self, and being discovered by Kang Woo-Hak (played by Cha Hak-Yeon) by the credits.

Episode 2 saw the adult 31-y/o Mok-Ha return to civilisation, and beginning to adapt to modern life, and encounter with her idol from 15 years ago ("Yoon Ran-Joo" played by Kim Hyo-Jin). Suspend your belief with how she managed to sing for her lip-syncing idol, in this wonderful sequence, with song sung by Park Eun-Bin herself, which somehow made the 2 episodes worth the watch, but barely, IMHO.

Personally I find the male characters not as endearing, as reading the commentary on socials, where folks seemed to like the "chaotic" situation with the brothers (includes Chae Jong-Hyeop as young brother "Kang Bo-Geol"). They ended up irking me more than I thought it would, and if I do not continue watching the series, it is because of them.

SYNOPSIS: Fifteen years after being stranded on a remote island, an aspiring singer reenters society — stopping at nothing to pursue her dream of becoming a diva.

Directed by Oh Choong-Hwan ("Big Mouth", "Start-Up" and my all-time favourite "Hotel Del Luna" in 2019!!!), written by Park Hye-Ryun, the tvN series stars Park Eun-bin (fresh off her extraordinary "Extraordinary Attorney Woo", no doubt expectations are HIGH), Kim Hyo-jin and Chae Jong-hyeop. I have high hopes to be entertained here, although I am none too convinced by the synopsis... but then again I'd rather be "surprised" that be wrapped around by yet another recognisable trope, no?

My mental-conflict continues for when Castaway Diva (무인도의 디바) premieres October 28th on Netflix, and as well on tvN, airing twice a week on Saturdays and Sundays (21:20).
